about

At its peak circa World War I, the Anthracite coal mining boom-town of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania was home to more than 25,000 residents. By the 1960's, the St. Nicholas coal breaker, once the largest of its kind in the world, was permanently closed and the town's population more than cut in half. My grandparents grew up there, raising their four children less than four miles away. They, along with my late father, witnessed the collapse and decay of the town firsthand. Much of this album takes its inspiration from the rise and fall of Shenandoah and countless patch towns and bureaus like it. It was written and performed in memory of John "JB" Boxter Sr., from whom I proudly take my name.

"Shenandoah" was recorded live in only two days at The Bombshelter in East Nashville, Tennessee. It is meant to mirror the feel and sonic quality of a live show.
